Use the partner portal

See the figures of each client who shares their account with your practice, ask a client to share, and open a shared account to view it or, when the client allows, make changes.

The partner portal is for the people at a practice that refers clients to IBC Tool. It lists your clients, shows the figures of each client who shares their account, and lets you open a shared account to answer a question without asking for screenshots.

A client chooses to share. You can ask, but only the client can turn on sharing, and the client can stop at any time. Sharing is view-only unless the client also allows changes. The client sees each time you open their account and each change you make.

  1. Go to the partner sign-in page and enter the email address your practice registered with IBC Tool.
  2. Select Send sign-in code. If IBC Tool knows the address, you get an email with a 6-digit code.
  3. Enter the code. The portal opens on Clients.

There is no password. To leave, select Sign out. Signing out also ends any client account you have open.

Your clients

The three numbers at the top are:

  • Need attention: clients with one of the three badges in the list below.
  • Sharing their account: clients who share with your practice.
  • Signed up through your practice: every client of your practice, sharing or not.

Each client who shares has a row with Available to borrow, Loans outstanding, Cash value, and PUA this policy year. The figures come from the client’s latest policy values. Figures as of gives the date of the oldest of those values, and Viewed gives the last time someone at your practice opened the account.

Can make changes under the client’s name means the client allows changes. Without it, you can only view.

A badge under the client’s name tells you why to call:

  • No policy yet: the client has not added a policy.
  • Figures out of date: a policy has no values from the last 35 days.
  • Annual statement missing: the client recorded an annual statement before, and the next one is late.

Clients that need attention are listed first.

Ask a client to share

Not sharing yet lists the clients who signed up through your practice but do not share their account.

  1. Find the client and select Request access.
  2. IBC Tool emails the client a link to the sharing setting in their account. The button then shows Asked.

A request shares nothing. Only the client can turn on sharing. Your practice can ask the same client again after 7 days.

Open a shared account

  1. Select View account in the client’s row.
  2. The account opens in a new tab, on the client’s dashboard.

A banner at the top shows your practice, the client’s name, and view only, or view & edit when the client allows changes. You see the same pages and numbers the client sees. To leave, select Close in the banner.

With view & edit, you can record and change what the client can, for example a snapshot, a loan, a payment, or a category. You can’t change the client’s sharing, sign-in email, passkeys, or budgeting app connection, and you can’t download the client’s data or delete the account. With view only, a save shows “You can’t make this change while you view a client account.”

The client can turn changes on or off at any time. It applies to your next action in a view that is open.

  • A view ends after 2 hours. Select View account again to continue.
  • If the client stops sharing, an open view ends, and you return to the portal.
  • If this browser is also signed in to your own IBC Tool account, copy the address of the new tab into a private window.

What the client sees

The client sees each view in their Settings, with the date, your name, and your practice. They also see each change you make, with what changed, for example “Loan payments: added”. See Share your account with your advisor for what the client does.
