Share your account with your advisor

Let the practice that referred you view your policies, loans, and categories, choose if they can also make changes, see each time they look, and stop sharing at any time.

If you signed up through an advisor’s practice, you can let that practice view your account. They then see the same numbers you see, so they can answer a question about your policies or your loans without asking you for screenshots.

Nothing is shared until you choose to share. Sharing is view-only unless you also allow changes. You see each time the practice opens your account and each change they make, and you can stop sharing at any time.

Share with your advisor shows in Settings only when your account came from a partner practice.

Share from Settings

  1. Open Settings and find Share with your advisor.
  2. If the practice asked to view your account, the card says so, with the date they asked.
  3. To let them make changes too, turn on Allow … to make changes, not just view. Leave it off for view-only sharing.
  4. Select Share with and the name of the practice.

The card then says that the practice can view your account, or view and make changes to it, and the date you shared it.

Share from the dashboard

After you sign up through a practice, the dashboard shows a card that asks if you want them to see your account. The card stays until you answer it.

  • Select Let them view to share view-only.
  • Select Let them view and make changes to share and allow changes.
  • Select Not now to share nothing. The card does not come back. You can still share later in Settings.

When your advisor asks

Your advisor can ask you to share from their side. You then get an email from IBC Tool that names the person and the practice. The email links to Share with your advisor in Settings. A request shares nothing. Only you can turn on sharing, and a practice can ask again only after 7 days.

Allow changes

When you allow changes, your advisor can do in your account what you can do: for example, record a snapshot, a loan, or a payment, or set up your categories. They can’t change who sees your account, your sign-in email, your passkeys, or your budgeting app connection, and they can’t download your data or delete your account.

To turn changes on or off after you share, use the switch Allow … to make changes, not just view on the card. It applies at once, also to a view that is open now. Turn it off and the practice can still view your account.

See each time they look

After the practice opens your account, Recent views on the card lists each view: the date and time, the person, and the practice.

If they make a change, Recent changes lists it: the date and time, what changed, for example “Loan payments: added”, the person, and the practice. Each list shows the last 20 entries.

Stop sharing

  1. Open Settings and find Share with your advisor.
  2. Select Stop sharing, then confirm.

The practice can no longer view or change your account. If they have it open, the view ends at once. Recent views and Recent changes stay on the card, so you keep the record.

If the practice is paused

If the practice is paused on IBC Tool, the card says so, and they cannot view your account. Sharing starts again if the practice comes back, unless you stop it first.
